Female Correspondence

The basic idea of the Female Correspondence project is correspondence as a way of communication, female talking, and connection in the form of printmaking art sent by mail.

With this project, we want to step away from the communication that is happening through social networks. Female artists, using a specific form of art, prints, achieve visual communication. This communication is not superficial. Each artist speaks with a characteristic sensibility about personal topics and views, relating the project to a woman's letter. Through the project we encourage female voices in art. This project began with the purpose of creating and exchanging ideas, while encouraging creative work and mutual support. All participating artists have one correspondence partner with whom they exchange prints throughout the year.

The printmaking process is a traditional medium which takes a longer time in the creative process due to the demanding techniques of making prints. The time needed for consideration and the long-lasting process in which the print is created gives space for communication.
Artists exchange prints in the form of postcards (10,5 x 15 cm). Correspondences between artists are different, so they exchange prints twelve, six, or four times a year.
